The discourse of Zarko Basheski’s sculptures is based primarily on quotations and a direct dialogue with classical tradition. His exhibits, both in terms of their format and number, are only a small segment of a series of monumental painted heads dedicated to the legendary military commander Alexander the Great. His portraits, always differently combined and composed of two parts (as, for instance, the combination with Nefertiti, etc.), with the head always presented with attributes that he was endowed with through history, are a reference to his cosmopolitan spirit; they are, at the same time, emblematic of the political and cultural ideas which are today implemented in the European Union.
